WEEK 1 & Season Preview

Game 1 8:00 Beavers vs Phil-thys

As talked about by the experts these are the two best teams on paper. But that is why they say -The game is played on the ice!

The Beavers Capitan Moe Dabah drafted a great team. With the #1 pick in the draft in Aaron Harary he looks to get a lot of scoring out of his Top line of Aaron and Elbaz. Moe also drafted Subzeros first line defensive pairing in Ikey Cabasso and Joey Cohen. The only question here is will these two be able to stay out of the box. But the main story coming out of Beavers camp is the return of goalie Mac Dabah. Mac who took some time off from the game, says he is 100% and is looking to reclaim his name as the GREATEST SY GOALIE. This team has nice depth in the offense department with the 2nd line being Mac Haddad ( if he will he show up) and the co-commisioner tandem of Freddy and Beyda. Not only that but with Alex helping out on D and the leadership of the Tebeles this team might just be the favorite out of the gate.

To say the Phil-thys are a deep team in the defense department is a true understatement. The Phil-thys lead by first time captain Phil Dweck should be a defensive power house. After Drafting Richie B in the first round and getting a steal with David Cabasso late in the 2nd round this might be your best 1-2 punch in the league. With Richie playing D it will allow David to play offensive with the likes of Louis Shamie, Brian Kreim and Mark Gindi. On the D side Richie will be paired up with Phil and Saul Cattan and Joa. But it doesn't matter how solid your D is, if your goalie wont play wel. And that is what the are expecting out of Abie Chera. Abie who had a great summer is looking to build on that and win the first ever SYBK Cup. Role players on this team is what is going to make this team hard to beat with sleeper of the draft in Jeffrey Tawil, Victor Miz, and Abie "Ham"- this team is going to play some hard checking filthy hockey.

Game 2 9:30 London Nights vs Puckers.

The questions have already begun for first time captain Abraham Haber. And no its not only for what he chose as a team name  but the doubters are saying what was he thinking in drafting Ezra G in the first round and then taking Ronnie Shalam with the 6th pick. People are saying these guys went a round to early and this team lost depth because of it. The good thing here is they might have the strongest 2nd line in Jackie Haber Elliott Sutton and Vic Gindi, but will there first line of EG Ronnie and DJ be able to do enough? Haber does not have much depth in D with only him and Lenny and Jeda being true defenseman. He will need help from his role players J-ho Beyda and Al Sutton to make this team go far. The sure answer you have here is Beyda in net. We saw performances of excellence by Beyda in the finals of the summer league and if that play can carry over this team should go pretty far. But will Beyda be able to put all that pressure on himself? Only time will tell.

The Puckerz- Captained by the most experienced Capitan of them all and what people are saying to be the best goalie in the league is Morris Bailey. At the draft Bailey passed up on some high noted players because he "did not enjoy playing with them." This puts a lot of pressure on his first line of Himy and Isaac. People are saying this might be the best pairing in the league- as Isaac will be able to set Himy up from anywhere on the ice. But who will finish off this line? Will it be one of the Habers in Joe or Louie. Or will you have a guy like Chilli or Sol Franco try and steal that job from them, or will it be Ray Braha who will always give you a spark off the bench. This team has a a lot of d-men but the question is how good of d-men will they actually be. Micheal Shamah has had some great seasons in the past but he always had a better partner on his side. Will this cause his play to go down a bit? With Joe Sutton, Jackie Gindi and Mark Dweck all trying to be the 2nd d-man on this team, will this cause any internal drama for the Puckerz? And then there is the Wild card of the draft in Todd Bernestien- we are all asking the same question who is this guy and is he any good? Bailey took a risk here and he is hoping it was not bad one. But one thing is for sure this team will go as far as Bailey will be able to carry them- and they hope he can carry them real far.
